We are well into Makuru season, with colder days and nights. Our Year 10 students look fantastic in their leavers' jackets. It's essential to continue wearing school uniforms during the winter months. The middle school athletics carnival is this Thursday, and we strongly recommend that the middle school students bring their wet-weather gear.
NAIDOC week is July 6th- 13th. It marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates the achievements of the past and the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, our communities' vision, and our ancestors' legacy. We have an assembly at the middle school on the last day of term.
It was great seeing so many parents/caregivers attend our recent Market Day. We also had a lot of ex-students visit on the day, and we love to hear about their current lives. It is very nice to see how many friendships made at school have endured. Mrs Foyster was the co-ordinator this year and did an excellent job. Our 10th year of Market Days was first started by our wonderful Deputy Principals when they were teachers here. I tasted some yummy muffins, had a nice coffee, and bought some fantastic products, including a brilliant cheeseboard. Next Market Day, I may even try Mr Arrantash's train ride.
Everyone should have received their child's school report. As always, if you would like to discuss progress with the class teacher, call to make an appointment. Staff will soon contact parents/caregivers for next term's IEP/ITP meetings.
Congratulations to all our Assembly award winners. We had a good turnout of families visiting for the assembly, and the look on the students' faces is priceless. The year 7 and 8 classes did an outstanding job; the presenters were brave and did well.
The School Board met last week and had a packed agenda. We welcomed a new staff representative, Mrs Hickey-Janes, to the board. The parent handbook on our website has been upgraded, and the statement of expectation and annual report were formally tabled. We are seeking some new parents to be on the board—please contact the office if you would like to nominate. It’s a two-year term, and we usually meet once a term.
This is a reminder that the first day back next term is a student-free day—no school for our students. Staff will be engaged in professional learning all day. We will learn about the Department's new information management system and do a workshop about work health and safety, especially psychological well-being.

7RW
The end of term 2 is nearing, and we have had a busy term. The students should be commended for their hard work and settling well into high school life and routines. In week 8, we went on our first excursion – the culmination of a unit of work about facilities available in our community. The students spent some time researching different facilities that the Leisureplex provides and then took photos of the different parts of the complex. This was an excellent opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Swimming Pools and change areas of the Leisureplex in preparation for their swimming lessons in weeks 9 and 10. It was great to see the students practising their road crossing skills during this time out in our community.

Learning about facilities in our Community for ASDAN
The following statements are from each student regarding their highlights from term 2:
Ethan - I enjoyed going to the Leisureplex to find out about the facilities available to use in our community.
Yahya - I like going to the library every Wednesday to borrow books to read.
Dylan - I really liked practising for the Sports Carnival during sports sessions – I liked shot put, running and long jump.
Perry - I was interested in the ingredients when we made a Magic Bean Cake – it was vegan and gluten free – it was so good.
Iman - I have enjoyed cooking in Independent Living – we made banana bread in the slow cooker, and macaroni cheese.
Michael - I enjoyed making a noughts and crosses set in woodwork this term.
Cooper - I liked playing the games in the rugby workshop in week 8.
Rocco - Walking over to Sevenoaks and hanging out with the year 11 students and finding out what it’s like over there each week.
Syifa - I have enjoyed getting to know other students and making friends from other classes.
Ryan - I really like playing with the new air hockey machine at recess and lunch with students from other classes.
Jahmeel - I liked going to the Deaf Sports day where I got to catch up with my friends from Primary School and play sport together. I really liked the Frisbee competition.

7VL
Hi everyone!
7VL has been very busy during the second half of term. We have been preparing for assembly, preparing for Market Day and started our swimming lessons.
For our assembly, students have been learning how to sign the song We Are Australian. Luka from 7RW was kind enough to come to the classroom and help us. She filmed herself to help us learn AUSLAN.
Market Day preparation has been in full swing! The class made posters, business cards and worked so hard making all the different products to sell. They should all be proud of themselves!
Swimming has also been a really fun activity in the classroom! They have loved going to swimming lessons in the afternoons, so far. They are all working hard on improving their swimming skills.
The final week of school will see 7VL host and perform the assembly item with 7RW, 8SS and 8AF, finish swimming lessons and participate in the sports carnival.
We wish everyone a safe, healthy and happy holidays!
See everyone next term!

8AF
What a busy and amazing term the students have had.
8AF have been super busy preparing for Market Day, making snuffle mats for dogs, banana and pear muffins, and jelly cups, and practicing their customer service skills. It’s been lovely to see them working collaboratively, sharing the roles of customer and sales staff.
We have also been practising our customer skills and money skills at the CANDO shop, as we have cooking sessions each Friday in maths. We love Fridays!
We planted bok choy, parsley, spinach, pak choy, thyme and silverbeet. We are looking forward to making a stir fry in the last week of term as part of our ‘Planter box to Plate’ programme.

An exciting event was the Rugby Incursion, run by AJ (not our AJ) and Jaimie. The students absolutely loved this session as AJ and Jaimie were so engaging, enthusiastic and supportive. It was fantastic watching the students again developing their teamwork skills. Personally, I am excited to see the Western Force play against the British and Irish Lions on Saturday! Can’t wait!

Isaiah at the rugby clinic
We also had another exciting event where we went to the Armadale Community Animal Rescue Group to give them the donations we had collected as part of our community service section of the Ignite Award. We absolutely loved petting the beautiful, soft and cuddly cats. They really liked the attention we gave them.

Finally, we have been practising We are One using AUSLAN, and the Acknowledgement of Country using Keyword sign, for our assembly in week 10.
We hope you all have an amazing holiday and rest up.
Annie Foyster and 8AF
8SS
8SS Term 2 has been packed full of fun activities and focusing on research and planning for our class excursion to the Perth Mint in Week 9 for 8SS.
One of our students was recognised and rewarded by the Student Services team for being the only Year 8 student to achieve 100% attendance, which is outstanding for Daniel, who enjoyed using his canteen voucher for lunch!
We have spent time learning about different types of natural disasters and their effects on the planet, with a strong PBS focus to improve our understanding of how and why we earn A.I.R. tokens and how our Class Rules align with this. Our token counts each week have increased, showing that the class is working hard to embody the values they are learning.
Students have been practising Auslan daily for our performance of “I am Australian” at the end of term assembly in Week 10, with Ms Griffin providing amazing support and guidance with our signing.

100% Attendance Award & Assembly Practice for Year 7 and Year 8 classes
In Term 1, students researched and chose their favourite animal, downloading a picture they could use to model and paint using papier mâché to create a model of this. It was a long process, with water bottles being filled with sand as the core before layers of newspaper were shaped and stuck to the bottle to form the shape, then paper and glue were layered and dried before students painted them. We think they’ve done a wonderful job and should be very proud of their work.

After the successful sales and subsequent donation to the Cannington RSL from ANZAC Poppy Badges at the end of Term 1, our class voted to make ceramic flowers on dowel stalks that can be used as garden or indoor ornaments for our Market Day Enterprise. We also continued creating Perler bead keyrings and magnets and packaging our earrings to be sold at Market Day on Friday, 27 June, Week 9.

This term, students participated in a variety of interest-based options every Wednesday, including Cooking, Lego, AFL, Mosaics, Sensory Activities, Just Dance and Minecraft. AFL was the featured sport for Kalability this term, which saw Jenson enjoying a fun day competing in the wet and cold games after practicing his skills during IBO.

On Wednesday, 25 June, our class boarded a Transperth bus from the newly opened Cannington Station to the Perth Mint in the city. We walked to the station, taking in the perfect weather, the new location and the surroundings of the bus station that we will be using in the future. After enjoying recess in the Perth Mint gardens before attending the tour, students were enthralled, watching and listening about the largest gold nuggets found in the world being discovered in Australia, and seeing a live gold pour. During the tour, we found out what our individual weights in gold are worth, tried to lift a solid gold bar and saw the largest gold coin in the world. We then walked to Moort-ak Waadiny (Wellington Park) where we enjoyed lunch together, then adventured through the playground before returning to school.

Wrapping Up a Busy and Brilliant Term 2
As Term 2 comes to an end, it’s incredible to reflect on just how much we’ve accomplished. We’ve officially reached the halfway point of the school year, and our class has been buzzing with activity and enthusiasm.
Our students have been working like busy beavers in preparation for Market Day, designing creative products and practising their customer service skills. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they take on the roles of young entrepreneurs.
Career Education has been a class favourite this term. We’ve started to explore the world of work and consider what our futures might look like. Our class is full of big dreams and diverse ambitions, including becoming a train driver, cook, childcare worker, voice actor, IT troubleshooter, car detailer, and firefighter—just to name a few! We’re looking forward to diving deeper into these career paths next term.
Another exciting event was the Rugby Incursion, led by the energetic and engaging AJ and Jaimie. The session was full of fun, teamwork, and physical activity. The clear highlight? Students absolutely loved the chance to run through their teachers!

Happy rugby participants with AJ

Zeva tackling Mrs Martlew
In Health, we’ve been learning about puberty and all the changes that come with it. Students have shown great maturity and curiosity, and they’re now eagerly awaiting the module test created by Mrs Martlew to see just how much they’ve learned.
This term, we also welcomed Miss Mahara Te Kani, a practicum student who joins us each Friday to support students with their learning goals. In Week 8, Mahara led a thoughtful discussion about the Winter Solstice, sparking great excitement as students learned that the days start getting longer after June 21.

Welcome Mahara

Discussing the Winter Solstice
As part of our ongoing focus on culture and inclusion, students also prepared for a visit by Sharon Gregory, a Noongar language consultant, by revisiting our Acknowledgement of Country using both spoken words and key word signing. It was a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding and respect for Aboriginal culture and language.

Jet and Tavis signing Acknowledgement of Country
Next term, we will be temporarily farewelling Ms Spadanuda, who is taking long service leave for Semester 2. We wish her all the best on her travels and look forward to hearing about her adventures. We’re also pleased to share that Mrs Martlew will be covering Fridays during this time to ensure a smooth transition and continued support for students.
Thank you all for a fantastic term. Have a safe and restful holiday, and we look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for Term 3!

A warm welcome to our new student, Ali Sena – a lovely addition to our class. He is a confident and happy young man, and we are so pleased to have him with us.
Our bowling excursions have been a big highlight this term. Students have worked hard to develop their skills, with Lily and Kyle showing enthusiasm and improvement. We were also thrilled that Ali Sena could join us for the final session – he fitted right in!

Ali Sena showing us his bowling skills!
In Maths, we’ve been learning all about time – reading timetables and calendars and exploring how these skills are used in everyday life.
We’ve also been exploring our hobbies, interests, and strengths, as part of our preparation for creating resumes next term. This is all in readiness for our upcoming work placements in Semester 2 – an exciting step towards building real-world skills!
As part of Market Day, we’ve been busy creating handmade bracelets and will be making cheese toasties to sell on the day. A special mention to Kyle, who calculated a profit and loss estimate for our class stall and helped set the prices for our products – fantastic work!
Another highlight is Mitchell’s RSPCA stall, which he is organising to raise awareness about preventing cruelty to animals in our community. He will also be raising funds to donate to the RSPCA – a wonderful effort to support a cause he is passionate about.
We also participated in the school’s fire drill this term. The class handled it incredibly well – students were calm, prepared, and followed instructions with care. Well done, class!
In our Duke of Edinburgh program, we’ve been learning about biting critters (like ticks and insects) and how to stay safe outdoors. We’ve also started learning some basic first aid – such an important life skill to have, and the students have enjoyed gaining this knowledge.

This term has been a productive and rewarding one for our students. Many have actively participated in work placements and TAFE programs, gaining valuable hands-on experience in their chosen fields. The feedback from employers and support staff has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the students’ dedication and growth.
As Year 11 students, developing practical skills and preparing for life beyond school is a key focus. In addition to their placements, students have been busy preparing for Market Day—creating dog bandanas, baking dog biscuits, and designing vibrant backdrop murals for the photo booth. We’re all looking forward to showcasing their hard work at the event.

AFL Kalability
On Wednesday, 18 June, CCESC was invited to take part in the Kalability AFL Carnival that was held at Kalamunda. We were so lucky to have Summer and Edmund representing the year 12JJ class. The weather was wet, wild and stormy, but our players managed to battle through the elements and play exciting games against other schools. It was a wonderful experience for our students.

Year 12 Ball visit to The Westin Hotel
On Monday, 23 June, the year 12 students went on a fantastic excursion to The Westin Hotel in Perth. This is the venue for the Year 12 Ball, and our students were able to see first-hand the Hotel lobby, Ballroom entrance, restaurants and facilities. It was great to see where the students needed to meet and which door they needed to enter to go into the Ballroom. We even busted out some dance moves!! It was such a great day and was a valuable experience to prepare our students for the year 12 Ball, which is being held on Friday, 1 August.

New HPE Options have started
Senior school students have now commenced Semester 2 HPE options. Students were able to choose between Dance, 10 Pin Bowling, Pot Black, Basketball and Dance. The HPE practical options are held every Monday in Period 4 and provide a great experience for students to enjoy a wide variety of leisure activities.
Market Day
On Friday 27 June, CCESC held its annual Market Day. It is such a wonderful day when we get to see classes showcase their goods and items they have created. The Year 12JJ class were extremely busy as they had made Infused Olive Oil, face biscuits, honey crackles and ran the Devonshire tea station for the parents. Our class had made over 60 scones to serve with tea and coffee. We even had our own ‘Op Shop’ where we sold a variety of clothing. It was like having a Boxing Day Sale in the BER!

What a great term it’s been for the 12 MM class! Everyone should be super proud of what they’ve achieved. Some of the highlights this term included getting out into the community for workplace learning, heading off to local sports centres for PE, and making some awesome new friendships along the way.
The students also had a blast making wooden items to sell at our upcoming Market Day – we can’t wait to see how they go!
A big well done to all our students, and a huge thank you to our amazing class staff for all their support and hard work.

Students in the workshop are doing music this term. They have been busy breaking tiles and following the lines around their chosen pattern. We have students creating lizards, turtles and bowls of fruit with colored tiles. Participants enjoy mosaics as they can listen to the workshop radio and work at their own pace.
Year 8 wood jewelry boxes
Year 8 woodwork students are getting towards the end of making their jewelry boxes. This week they stripped the hinges and catches of their projects and applied paint. Staff worked with students to get them to paint in the direction of the grain. I am expecting students will get their projects finished in time for the end of the term.

Year 9 Woodwork
One Year 9 woodwork class had a few members at the AFL sports carnival this week, which resulted in a small class arriving for woodwork. Students were allowed to have a go at a scrap box challenge. Students were told they had one hour to design, start and finish a small project from the workshop’s scrap timber box. Staff supported students to make a choice and get started. We had five class members who were fully engaged for an hour without the normal step-by-step structure. It was great to see the students demonstrating a range of skills while creating a finished product in a set time!

Year 9 Scrapbox challenge
Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Award
Year 10 classes have been hard to catch up with as they have been so busy with excursions in a range of programmed learning areas. Year 10s have been completing a hands-on first aid course that has looked at severe bleeds, burns and exposure to the elements. They have also been doing some work learning about bitey critters in WA that bite or sting in the bush or at the beach. Students have been applying snake bite bandages and using ice packs to address mock stings.
Year 12 MM
Year 12 MM students have been visiting our workshop facilities over the last few weeks to produce a range of wooden kitchen products to sell on Market Day. They have been busy sanding and applying a food-grade finish to their pieces. It has been great to see the workshop being used as a creative space outside formal woodwork classes.

Trade start
Trade start students have been busy producing their folding camping shovels. The production process has required students to arc weld, oxy weld and use a heavy-duty bending machine to fold the blade shape so it holds soil. Final assembly, priming and painting are well under way. Students have also collaborated with our 12MM class and completed a production run, which used an 8-station process to fabricate steel handles for their market day project. The collaboration was a great way to hone skills and practice quality control.

Physical Education
Term 2 has passed in a blur of activity! All classes have been busy developing their AFL skills during P.E. lessons and have enjoyed playing modified games against their classmates. The year 10s had a blast at 10-pin bowling as a part of their Recreational Pursuits program. There was a lot of friendly rivalry, and everyone made pleasing progress, improving their scores with practice. Hopefully, some of them will continue to bowl beyond their school years.

Fatih, Ethan and Ali Saad ready to go bowling.
The Focus for the Term has been the interschool Kalability AFL carnival, which was planned for week six. Due to bad weather, the carnival was postponed and rescheduled for week 8. The day of the carnival was a wet one, but all our players bravely faced the rain and cold, putting in a major effort. Everyone behaved well both on and off the field, and both teams managed to win a game, despite facing tough opposition. The best players were Patrick Kargbo, Ali Saad Hamad, Nur Elina Skrgic and Rocco Rullo in the division one team. For the division two team, Summer Mulder, Louise Taylor, and Mitchell Kidd were standout players. Fantastic work by all the students and a big thanks to all the staff who made the day possible!

Workplace Learning
Carollyn Pears and Narelle Watkins were absent for the last three weeks, and we would like to thank Kiya Egan, Claire Anton and Linda Niblock for stepping in and filling the gap when needed. Workplace Learning continued, and most of our Senior Students have gone from strength to strength in their workplaces this semester. Many of our students will be starting a new placement for next term. We have endeavoured to find placements that suit the students and will be excited to begin again in fresh workplaces.
We are so impressed with the students’ efforts. Many employers are sad that the students are moving on, and thanks to the students’ performance, most employers have agreed to accept more students in the workplace. We also have several new employers coming on board, offering to take our students for work experience next semester. We are confident our students will be great representatives of our school.
We have a small group of students attending a program run by Essential Personnel. There have been a few teething issues with this program, and the students have demonstrated great resilience and have already gained the confidence to ask for help when they needed it. They have shown determination to complete the program, and they will gain valuable work skills for the future.
We look forward to getting to know the Year 10 students next term and to starting them thinking about their transition to the Senior Campus. There is an educational excursion with Transperth on Friday July 25. I am personally looking forward to travelling on the new train line.
There will be a Post School Options meeting next term. We will send details of the date and venue when they have been confirmed. There will be a wide variety of agencies who can give advice about what is available to families now, while their child is still at school, and later when their child has left school. This is a great time to meet with agencies all in one place.
The students have made this another very successful semester proving how capable they are, how hard they work, showing great enthusiasm both at school and in the workplace. We look forward to the students and Mrs Watkins returning next semester and continuing with the same level of enthusiasm after the break.

RAP
Our school’s RAP deliverables continue to be achieved with the recent Noongar language lesson presented by Sharon Gregory. This was made possible with our successful PALS grant funding. Students had an opportunity to engage in a Noongar lesson and were eager to learn a variety of words/phrases, including the signs that will be in our school in the near future.
It was totally MOORDITJ!
Thanks Ms Gregory.

Student Services Update
Our Student Services & RAP teams collaborated with the CCC and Sevenoaks Student Services teams and ran events, incursions, excursions, in-class projects and learning content, whole school ceremonies and mural projects, and wellbeing activities for all these important events.
To celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of wellbeing, we celebrated Wellbeing in week 9. Our wellbeing incorporates many aspects, including physical, mental and emotional health, as well as social and economic influences.
To improve students’ awareness, they participated in several activities including riding the blender bike to make healthy smoothies, pamper sessions, art projects, music sessions, switch activities and even a cuddly animal farm.
We also celebrated NAIDOC WEEK (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee), which celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
In 2025, NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.

The boom gates are closed between 8:50 am – 2:50 pm (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) and 8:50 am – 2:15 pm (Wednesday).
Parents should enter the school from Cecil Avenue, turn left at the traffic lights onto Sevenoaks Street, turn left into SSC, and turn left into the long carpark.
The CCESC Business Centre is the brown brick building on the left side of the car park.
Drive over the yellow sensor to leave the campus, and the boom gate will open automatically.
